About The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir
The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir is a gospel choir based at The Brooklyn Tabernacle in downtown Brooklyn, New York. Founded in 1973 by Carol Cymbala with just eight members, the ensemble has grown into a 300-voice choir composed of church members from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds, many without formal musical training. Cymbala serves as the choir’s director and has written or co-written many of its songs. The choir’s ministry emphasizes prayer and the worship of Jesus Christ.
Over the years, the choir has performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, and Madison Square Garden. In 2013, the ensemble performed at the Presidential Inauguration. The choir has recorded more than 30 albums, with releases such as Favorite Song of All (1996), God Is Working (2000), Be Glad (2001), A Brooklyn Tabernacle Christmas (2010), Love Lead The Way (2013), Pray (2015), I Am Reminded (2018), and I Will Not Be Moved: Live with The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir (2025).
The choir’s achievements include seven Grammy Awards, among them Best Roots Gospel Album for I Will Not Be Moved: Live with The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir (2026). It has also received seven Dove Awards and placed four albums at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. Through its recordings and live ministry, the choir continues to share the Christian gospel in song.
