Meaning & Inspiration
‘Use Me’ is a prayer of availability that places a person’s hands, feet, heart, and speech before God. The chorus asks the Lord to work through ordinary human faculties, making service an act of surrender rather than self-promotion. Its repetition gives the request the character of a congregational commitment: usefulness begins with willingness to be directed and changed by God.
The verses support that prayer with Moses and David. Moses’ staff becomes an instrument in the crossing of the sea, while David’s sling becomes part of the victory over Goliath. In both accounts, familiar objects and unlikely servants participate in events made possible by God’s action. The lyric draws a simple conclusion from those stories without claiming that strength or status qualifies a servant. God can employ what is placed at his disposal. The bridge then returns to the body and voice, asking that action, desire, and speech all become channels of faithful service.
