Meaning & Inspiration
Legodimong (In Heaven) is a South African gospel song in a Sotho-Tswana language with English translations in parentheses. The song describes a garment in heaven that the singer has chosen, seen, worn and found fitting, calling it the suit of Heaven. It then names what is worn on each part of the body: Glory on the head, Hallelujah on the body, Hosanna on the waist and Amen on the feet.
The closing line, "Oh, the Lord is my Shepherd and I shall not want," brings in Psalm 23:1. The clothing imagery of heavenly garments fits Isaiah 61:10 on garments of salvation, Revelation 7:9 and 19:8 on white robes, and Colossians 3:12 on putting on virtues. The question-and-response structure and the translations make the song easy for a mixed-language congregation to join, and its tone is joyful and celebratory.
