Meaning & Inspiration

“When You Carry God” by Jimmy D Psalmist and Emmasings is a Nigerian worship song about the confidence of belonging to God. The chorus says that when a person carries God, he carries everything, because He is the owner of the world. The idea is repeated until it becomes a shared declaration.

The verses describe the Father as king of the world and creator of the universe, with the ocean that never runs dry and the air and its fullness belonging to Him. Emmasings adds a verse in Igbo and English that says the cattle on a thousand hills are His and that all power is in His hands. The bridge repeats “I’m a child of the king, my father owns the world,” and says the singer can never beg for bread.

The themes are close to Psalm 24:1, Psalm 50:10 and Romans 8:16-17, on God owning the earth, the cattle on a thousand hills and children of God as heirs.
