Lyrics

Going out to new atmospheres
Going out to new places
Going out to new atmospheres

You got to have new ears
Heavenly places.....

New revelation
What are doing?
Where are you going?
You are going to give....

Some of you have been fighting for a very long time
Some of you have been fighting that ground warfare for a very long time
Sticking out your fists and fighting
God wants to take you to new places
New revelation

What are doing?
Where are you going?
You are going to give.....

Some of you have been fighting for a very long time
Some of you have been fighting that ground warfare for a very long time
Sticking out your fists and fighting
God wants to take you to new places
New revelation
New perspective
Arial view

I declare over you, God has given you the air
So fly, it's time to open up your wings,
To shake off the things that hold you down
It's time to spread out your wings and fly.

Do you see what I see?
Do you hear what I hear?
Do you know what I know?
Do you want what I want?

Fly.......

Do you see what I see?
Do you hear what I hear?
Do you know what I know?
Fly

Fly.......

Do you see what I see?
Do you hear what I hear?
Do you know what I know?
Fly

I have given you wings
I have set you free from the things that held you
I have given you wings
I have set you free, so come to me and
Fly......

Like a bird in the air, you have escaped the snare
Like a bird in the air, you have escaped the snare
Like a bird in the air, you have escaped the snare of the enemy

You have been set free
You have been set free

Nothing could ever hold you.

Meaning & Inspiration

My knuckles are still raw from the gravel. I spent so long punching at shadows, convinced that if I just fought hard enough—if I just gritted my teeth and swung at every obstacle in my path—I could carve out some kind of life on my own terms. I was knee-deep in the mud of my own making, convinced that the only way to survive was to keep my fists doubled up. You spend enough time in the dirt, you start to believe that the ground is all there is. You think the struggle is the identity.

Jason Upton sings about “ground warfare” on Remember, and it hits like a gut punch. It’s that realization that I’ve been living in a war zone I didn’t have to stay in. I spent years in the dirt, convinced that the "snare" was just part of the furniture, something I had to live around. I fought the ground because I didn't know how to look up.

But then there’s this line: “I declare over you, God has given you the air / So fly, it's time to open up your wings.”

It feels reckless. It feels entirely unearned. I’m standing there with the dirt still under my fingernails and the smell of the pigpen faint in my clothes, and someone is telling me I have wings. The sheer scandal of it is what keeps me awake. In Psalm 124, the writer talks about how our soul has escaped like a bird from the fowler’s snare; the snare is broken, and we have escaped. But when you’ve been trapped, you get a weird comfort from the cage. You get used to the bars. You get used to the weight of your own failures. The idea of "aerial view" is terrifying because it means I have to stop fighting the ground and actually trust that I’m being held by something else.

It’s not about being stronger. It’s not about fighting harder. It’s about the absolute humiliation of being rescued while I was still trying to punch my way out of a hole.

I’m still shaky. I don’t know how to fly yet. I’m looking at the sky and wondering if I’ll just fall back down the moment I try to let go of the dirt. But the song doesn't ask if I've cleaned myself up first. It just points to the wings. It’s a strange, quiet mercy—to be told that the war I’ve been waging has been over for a long time, and the only thing left to do is to stop swinging and let the wind take me. I’m not sure I’m ready, but I’m done with the mud. I’m just waiting to see if I can actually believe I’ve been set free.
