Meaning & Inspiration
Released as part of the album *Worship Anywhere: Live from Camp NewBreed* in October 2022, "Campfire Coritos" by Israel & New Breed is a vibrant and unadulterated declaration of faith, drawing deeply from the wellspring of Scripture to articulate the immensity of God's power and the transformative nature of His grace. The song's essence lies in its robust scriptural affirmations, celebrating a God who is undeniably great, performing miracles that no other deity can accomplish. This aligns with declarations like Deuteronomy 3:24, "No god in heaven or on earth can do the deeds you do," and Isaiah 43:10-11, which states, "Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after. I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior."
The core message powerfully asserts that true strength and victory are not achieved through human might or military force, but through the Holy Spirit, as the lyrics emphasize "No es con espada, ni con ejercito, más con su Santo Espíritu." This directly echoes Zechariah 4:6, which famously states, "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord Almighty." The song continues this theme of divine enablement, proclaiming that with this Spirit, even insurmountable obstacles, represented by "montes" (mountains), will move. This resonates with Jesus' own teaching in Matthew 17:20, where He tells His disciples, "Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."
Further deepening its scriptural foundation, "Campfire Coritos" shifts to a profound emphasis on praise and the communal act of worship. The repeated refrain, "Alabaré a mi Señor," meaning "I will praise my Lord," draws inspiration from passages like Psalm 34:3, "Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together," and the vision from Revelation 7:9 where John sees "a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb," all worshipping God. The song specifically highlights this collective worship, referencing a scene where the redeemed are singing and praying, united in their praise. This communal aspect is crucial, reflecting the encouragement in Hebrews 10:24-25 to "consider how we may spur one another on toward love and action. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another.”
The latter part of the song introduces the concept of salvation through faith, stating "Si Tú tienes a Cristo Jesús, Él te perdonará" and reinforcing it with the idea that "Una mirada de fe… Es la que puede salvar al pecador." This powerfully encapsulates the biblical truth that salvation is a gift received by faith in Jesus Christ, as highlighted in Ephesians 2:8-9: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." The "glance of faith" signifies a turning towards Christ, a recognition of His sufficiency to save, echoing passages like John 3:14-15, where Jesus speaks of the Son of Man being lifted up so that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life. In essence, "Campfire Coritos" serves as a potent reminder of God's unmatchable power, the Spirit's essential role in our lives, and the liberating salvation found solely through faith in Jesus, all woven together with the joyous and unifying act of worship.
