Alexis Vélez Alberio, known professionally as Alex Zurdo, is a Puerto Rican Christian music rapper and songwriter who has built a career in urban Christian music, blending rap, reggae, and urban-pop fusion. Born on June 10, 1983, in Puerto Rico, he began writing rap songs at the age of eleven. At nineteen, he converted to Christianity, a decision that would shape his musical direction. Before committing fully to music, he studied electronic engineering at the University of Puerto Rico.
Alex Zurdo released his first album, Nada es mío, in 2004, marking the start of a steady output of faith-centered recordings. His catalog grew with albums including Se trata de Ti (2006), ¿Quién contra nosotros? (2018), M.E.M.E (2020), DTOX (2022), CONXSIÓN (2023), and DUAL (2024). He also collaborated with fellow Christian urban artists Funky and Redimi2 on the project UNO (2021). Through these releases, he built a reputation for delivering gospel messages within contemporary urban sounds.
The quality of his work gained industry recognition. In 2019, Alex Zurdo won the GMA Dove Award for Spanish Language Album of the Year. That same year, he also received the Arpa Award for Best Urban Album. His album ¿Quién contra nosotros? earned a nomination for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Christian Album (Spanish Language) in 2019.
Outside of his music career, Alex Zurdo is married to his wife, Dennisse, and they have two children.
