Lyrics
Verse 1
I'm so confused
I know I heard you loud and clear
So, I followed through
Somehow I ended up here
I don't wanna think
I may never understand
That my broken heart is a part of your plan
When I try to pray
All I've got is hurt and these four words
Chorus
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Verse 2
I know you're good
But this don't feel good right now
And I know you think
Of things I could never think about
It's hard to count it all joy
Distracted by the noise
Just trying to make sense
Of all your promises
Sometimes I gotta stop
Remember that you're God
And I am not
So
Chorus
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Like a child on my knees all that comes to me is
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will
Bridge
I know you see me
I know you hear me, Lord
Your plans are for me
Goodness you have in store
I know you hear me
I know you see me, Lord
Your plans are for me
Goodness you have in store
Chorus
So, thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Like a child on my knees all that comes to me is
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
I know you see me
I know you hear me, Lord

Meaning & Inspiration
Thy Will is a prayer of surrender sung from a place of confusion and hurt. The verses admit the singer heard God clearly, followed through and still ended up somewhere painful, and that all that is left to pray when hurt is four words: "Thy will be done." The second verse struggles with counting it all joy while the noise distracts, then reminds the singer that God is God and the singer is not.
The bridge turns back to trust with the lines "I know you see me" and "Your plans are for me, goodness you have in store." The refrain comes from the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:10 and from Jesus' prayer in Gethsemane in Luke 22:42, the call to count it all joy is from James 1:2, and the confidence in good plans echoes Jeremiah 29:11. The song keeps its honesty about pain while still choosing submission, and the simple repeated refrain makes it easy to pray along.
