Meaning & Inspiration
Give Thanks is a song of gratitude built on the steadfast love of God. The first verse comes with grateful hearts, humble before the Holy One, saved by grace through the blood of the Lamb who was slain, saying thank You again and again. The chorus says to give thanks because the Lord is good and His love endures forever and evermore.
The second verse pictures kings bowing under the weight of His glory and tells the soul to remember the Redeemer who is faithful and will deliver, and the bridges praise the God of ages who will not forsake and is always able and faithful in all things. The text draws on Psalm 136:1, Psalm 107:1, Revelation 5:12 on the Lamb who was slain, Hebrews 13:5 and 1 Thessalonians 5:18. The plain, repeated refrain makes the song an easy and joyful response of thanks for a congregation.
