Lyrics
Everything is lovely, everything is bright
Everything is here because of glorious design
Everything becoming, our salvation nigh
You and I we will survive
Everything is broken, everything is pain
Everything is dark and pointless
What is there to say
Everything is empty
Everything will die
You and I
See the night
See the sunrise
See the love
See the heartbreak
You and I
We will be alright
Look at all the starving
Look at all the war
How we cut the world to pieces, tearing us apart
Look at all the mothers
Babies in their arms
Look at how they'd give their bodies just to keep them warm
Every life is taken (for another's death)
Every death is given (for another's life)
Every breath, the gift of life
See the night
See the sunrise
See the love
See the heartbreak
You and I
We will be alright

Meaning & Inspiration
“Lovely” holds beauty and brokenness beside each other without pretending that either one cancels the other. Its opening vision of brightness and glorious design gives way to pain, emptiness, war, hunger, and death. The repeated movement from night to sunrise and from love to heartbreak creates a sober confession: human life bears signs of goodness while remaining wounded. Even the assurance that the pair will be all right is framed by the suffering visible around them.
The final images draw particular attention to costly care. Mothers protect children with their own bodies, while life, death, and breath are described through the language of gift and exchange. That pattern may recall the Christian hope that darkness does not have the final word, while refusing to minimize present grief. The song’s contrast between creation and fracture also aligns with Romans 8:22–23, where creation groans while awaiting redemption. Its hope is therefore restrained rather than easy, looking toward sunrise from within the night.
