Lyrics

Verse 1

All I once held dear, built my life upon
All this world reveres, and wars to own
All I once thought gain I have counted loss
Spent and worthless now, compared to this

Chorus

Knowing you, Jesus
Knowing you, there is no greater thing
You're my all, you're the best
You're my joy, my righteousness
And I love you, Lord

Verse 2

Now my heart's desire is to know you more
To be found in you and known as yours
To possess by faith what I could not earn
All-surpassing gift of righteousness

Bridge

Oh, to know the power of your risen life
And to know You in Your sufferings
To become like you in your death, my Lord
So with you to live and never die

Meaning & Inspiration

Knowing You is a song about counting everything else as loss compared with knowing Christ. The first verse lists what was once held dear and built on, and what the world reveres and wars to own, and calls it spent and worthless compared with this. The chorus says there is no greater thing than knowing Jesus, who is the singer's all, joy and righteousness.

The lines follow Philippians 3:7-10 closely: counting gain as loss, being found in Him, possessing the righteousness that comes by faith, knowing the power of His resurrection and fellowship in His sufferings, and becoming like Him in His death. The ending looks to living with Him and never dying, which fits John 11:25-26. Warm, direct and reflective, the song works as a personal prayer of devotion and as a quiet congregational hymn of commitment.
