Meaning & Inspiration
“God of Wonders” by Elijah Oyelade is a worship song that gathers several names of God into one refrain: Yahweh, Adonai, and the God who reigns forever. The chorus says, “We glorify Your name… we bow to worship You,” and it is repeated through the recording so the congregation can settle into it.
The verse describes God as miracle worker and wonder working God who never fails and never changes. It adds that He does great and mighty things. The bridge asks “Who is there unto You, O God?” and borrows images from Israel’s history, mountains moving at His presence, the sea seeing Him and fleeing, and Jordan driven back.
Those lines are close to Psalm 114:3-7, which describes the sea fleeing and the Jordan turning back, and the claim that He is the same yesterday and today is close to Hebrews 13:8. Exodus 15:11 also asks who is like the Lord among the gods. The song keeps its focus on God’s wonders and the congregation’s worship.
