Lyrics

Verse 1

In my filth, in my shame
I call on You Jesus, You answer me, oh
You answer me, oh
In my mess, in my battles
I run to You Jesus, You fight for me, oh
You fight for me, oh

Chorus (x2)

I call You Odogwu na gha
Odogwu na gha, Dike na gha
You never fail me

Verse 2

At the blast of Your nostrils
The seas part
Mountains skip like ram at the very sound of Your voice
Oh, Odi onimi
Chukwu okike
Narakele
Lord, we bow our hearts and worship You
Alone

Chorus (Repeat)

I call You Odogwu na gha
Odogwu na gha, Dike na gha
You never fail me

Bridge

Nobody like You
Nobody greater than You
El-Shaddai, my defender
Nobody greater, only You God
Your mighty hand, they cover me
They carry me

Chorus (Repeat)

I call You Odogwu na gha
Odogwu na gha, Dike na gha
You never fail me

Meaning & Inspiration

“Odogwu” by Chidinma and Prospa Ochimana is a worship song that praises God as a mighty warrior in English and Igbo. The first verse confesses filth, shame, mess and battles, and says that the singer calls on Jesus, who answers and fights for him. The chorus names God with Igbo titles for a champion and a hero and says, “You never fail me.”

The second verse describes His power: at the blast of His nostrils the seas part, and the mountains skip like rams at the sound of His voice. It includes Igbo titles such as Chukwu okike, the creator God, and a line of thanks, and invites the congregation to bow and worship. The bridge says nobody is greater and names El Shaddai as defender.

The imagery is close to Exodus 15:8, Psalm 114:4 and Psalm 18:2, on the blast of God’s nostrils, hills skipping like lambs and the Lord as a strong defender. The song is confident, grateful and meant for group worship.
