Lyrics
Joy to the world, the Lord is come
Let earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare Him room
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and nature sing
Joy to the world, the Savior reigns
Let men their songs employ
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy
instrumental
He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glory of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love

Meaning & Inspiration
The O.C. Supertones’ rendition of “Joy to the World” retains the carol’s sweeping celebration of Christ as King and Savior. The opening verse calls the whole earth to welcome Him, joining human praise with the song of creation. The next verse presents His reign as a cause for overflowing joy, expanding the response from individual hearts to fields, floods, rocks, hills, and plains. Repeated lines make that joy sound abundant and impossible to contain.
The final verse turns from welcome to the character of Christ’s rule. Truth, grace, righteousness, and love define His kingship, giving the celebration a theological center beyond holiday festivity. The lyrics closely reflect Psalm 98, where creation rejoices before the Lord because He comes to judge the world with righteousness. Their announcement of the Savior also fits the angelic good news in Luke’s nativity account. In this ska cover, a classic Christmas text remains a proclamation that Christ’s reign brings joy to people, nations, and the created world.
