So many passed him daily as he sat there begging alms,
Oh Lazarus, oh Lazarus, that poor soul,
Not one single penny did they place in Lazarus' palm,
But Lazarus wasn't begging when he reached his final home;
I wish I could have watched him as he spanned sweet Jordan's tide,
And seen him as he entered Heaven's bliss,
I'd love to ask him questions as the gates swing open wide,
I can almost hear him answer as I ask him things like this.

Just like dear old Lazarus I laid outside the gate,
Longing for sweet comfort for my soul,
But then the Lord had mercy and now I too can celebrate,
I'll run the streets of glory with old Lazarus soon I know.
