Lyrics
You dropped me off for my first day of school
Six years old and had to learn new rules
I didn't know what I was walking into
I turned around and waved goodbye to you
When you left me, I remembered you
Told me when the lunch bell rings at noon
And I'm through with Twinkie number two
And I'd be half a day away from you
Half a day away from you
Mom, you always know what to do
Soon I won't be missing you and feeling so blue
Half a day away from you
Twenty years and half a million miles
A lot of tears and 'bout as many smiles
Gettin' by with life the way I do
Gettin' paid to sing and play for you
I bought a Twinkie at an old truck-stop
Got a dial tone when my quarter dropped
I said, "Hey, mama" when the call went through
"I'm only half a day away from you"
Half a day away from you
Mama's always know what to do
Soon I won't be missing you and feeling so blue
Half a day away from you
Half a day away from you
