Glen Travis Campbell was an American country musician, actor, and television host. Born in Billstown, Arkansas, one of 12 children, he began his professional career as a session musician in Los Angeles, notably as part of the “Wrecking Crew.” He hosted the television variety show The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour on CBS from 1969 to 1972.
Campbell achieved significant commercial success with crossover hits on both country and pop charts, placing 82 singles on Billboard charts with nine reaching number one. His recordings include “Gentle on My Mind,” “Wichita Lineman,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Rhinestone Cowboy,” “Galveston,” and “Southern Nights.” He won multiple Grammy Awards for his recordings in the late 1960s and sold over 45 million records worldwide. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005.
Raised in the Church of Christ, Campbell spoke publicly about his Christian faith in later years. He released several albums featuring gospel music and hymns throughout his career, including Favorite Hymns (1989) and the song “No More Night.” These recordings formed part of a musical legacy that spanned country, pop, and gospel expression.
