Meaning & Inspiration
In “Bwana U Sehemu Yangu” (Lord, You are my portion), Elizabeth Nyambura sings of walking with God as friend and companion. The repeated line “Pamoja na wewe” (together with You) anchors every chorus, and the first verse describes a path on which the singer will walk with Him. The second verse sets wealth aside: the singer did not seek possessions to gain respect, and would rather meet hardship “sawasawa na wewe,” alongside God.
The last verse asks to be led forward to heaven’s door and to enter it together with Him. The song makes no demand for an easy road. Its confidence rests on a presence that continues from the present path into the life beyond it.
