Meaning & Inspiration
“If You Believe” by Strive to Be is an encouraging pop song about faith when strength runs out. The first verse describes someone defeated, on their knees, looking up for hope, who throws their hands up as if there is no strength to fight after too many days ending in the darkest night. The line “on your own you’ll never know” admits the limits of self-reliance.
The chorus is the message: “If you believe, you can move the highest mountains, cross the greatest oceans, walk across the water.” These images are close to Matthew 17:20 on faith moving mountains and Matthew 14:29 on Peter walking on the water.
The second verse says that faith is all that is needed, yet the person feels lost after wrong turns and is looking for grace and someone to lift them up. The bridge repeats that you can do anything if you believe, close to Mark 9:23. The song is a simple pep talk built on belief.
