About Fred Hammond
Fred Hammond is a gospel singer, bass guitar player, and record producer. Born Frederick William Hammond on December 27, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan, he gained early recognition as a bass player for the gospel group The Winans. He was one of the six original members of the gospel group Commissioned, formed in 1985.
Hammond launched his solo career in 1991 with the album I Am Persuaded. He went on to release several notable albums, including Pages of Life - Chapters I & II (1998), Purpose By Design (2000), Somethin' 'Bout Love (2004), Free To Worship (2006), Love Unstoppable (2009), United Tenors (2013), and I Will Trust (2014). He is also the founder and CEO of Face to Face Productions and has served as a producer on more than 100 album projects.
Hammond is credited with helping develop the "Urban Praise & Worship" genre. His work has earned him a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album in 2008, as well as nine Dove Awards. In 2020, he received the Gospel Music Icon Award from Black Music Honors.
