Lyrics
Verse 1
The Lord is not our equal
He doesn't need the help of man
Who could ever give Him counsel
Who could ever stop His sovereign plan
Though men may boast of wisdom
And be filled with pride within
Who is bold enough to answer
When his Maker comes to question him
Verse 2
Though rulers rise against Him
The King of Heaven laughs
He rebukes them in His anger
And terrifies them in His wrath
He punishes the wicked
Pours judgment out on sin
Yet this Champion of Justice
Is a Savior if you call on Him
Chorus
And we call on the name
Of the holy sovereign Lord
The King of all the earth
And we hope in the power
Of His awesome mighty hand
We tremble at His word
Who is like our God
Verse 3
The heavens sound with thunder
As His majesty is shown
The four and twenty elders
Fall down and worship at His throne
His eyes are flames of fire
And His face is like the sun
He's the Alpha and Omega
The One who was and is to come

Meaning & Inspiration
“Who Is Like Our God” exalts God’s unmatched wisdom, authority, justice, and saving power. The opening verse rejects any comparison between the Creator and humanity: no counselor directs him, and no human power can stop his rule. The next verse places earthly rulers beneath the King of heaven, whose judgment confronts wickedness. Yet the lyric also presents this righteous Judge as a Savior who may be called upon.
The chorus responds with reverence, hope, and trust in the holy sovereign Lord. Its final verse then turns toward the throne-room imagery of Revelation, where twenty-four elders worship, eyes blaze like fire, and the divine face shines like the sun. The title Alpha and Omega further identifies God as eternal and supreme. These images draw together several biblical passages without reducing the song to a single scene. The repeated question in the title serves as praise: no rival shares God’s majesty, and no earthly authority compares with his rule.
