“Ombi Langu - Natamani Kuingia Mbinguni” by Reuben Kigame is a Swahili song of longing for heaven. It opens with the image of a deer thirsting for water in the wilderness, and the singer says the soul longs for the face of the Father. The prayer is stated plainly: “Hili ni ombi langu,” meaning “this is my request.”
The second verse lifts the eyes to the hills and asks where help comes from, answering that it comes from the Lord, who is God, Rock, beloved and Savior. The singer then says that after many days of service the one fear is missing the sight of Him. The later lines describe heaven as a place of wonderful rest and fullness of life, and they end at the cross.
The lyrics are close to Psalm 42:1-2, Psalm 121:1-2 and Philippians 1:23, on thirst for God, help from the Lord and the desire to be with Christ.
