Meaning & Inspiration
Pokea / Pokeya Sifa is a Swahili song that declares the greatness of God and asks Him to receive praise. The refrain says that at His name all evil goes down and asks who can stand before Him, and the verse says that none has been seen like Him, the Creator of heaven and earth, whom the soul praises as King. A later section says He is the refuge of generations, and that His power inspires awe.
The bridge says the sea obeys Him, mountains tremble at His voice and nothing is too hard for Him. The closing repeats "Pokeya utukufu na sifa zote," which asks Him to receive all glory and praise. The themes fit Psalm 90:1-2, Psalm 114:3-7, Jeremiah 32:17 and Revelation 4:11. The repeated chorus and closing plea make a strong act of worship.
