Meaning & Inspiration
Arise Oh God is a gospel praise song that calls God to take His rightful place on the throne. The verse asks that the nations of the earth declare His glory and honor, that the people of the earth sing His praise and majesty, and that all living creatures, great and small, join with the hosts of heaven to stand as one and say the words of the chorus. The chorus repeats the cry "Arise oh God, arise our King, and take Your rightful place upon the throne."
A special section declares that He is the King of kings and Lord of lords, repeated three times, followed by a short line of love and the word majesty. The themes follow Psalm 96:7-8 on giving the Lord glory and strength, Psalm 7:6 on asking the Lord to arise, and Revelation 19:16 on the King of kings. The simple, repeated cry and building choir parts give the song a bold, worshipful tone suited to a large gathering.
