Naming the object of refusal as "Baal" reaches further back, to Elijah's era and God's assurance in 1 Kings 19:18 that seven thousand in Israel had not bent the knee to that same idol, a remnant who resisted the pressure surrounding them.
The spoken exhortation midway through the song makes the application explicit, translating an ancient idol into modern substitutes — social pressure, social media, the pull of a generation's appetites — without pretending the old category has disappeared.
