Lyrics

Verse

When I was younger
I thought You loved everybody else
But somehow not exactly me
I thought You were so far away
But now I’m older
And Your goodness overshadows me
Now I’ve tasted and I’ve seen
You're closer to me everyday

Chorus

I can’t ignore the evidence of Your love
I can’t ignore the evidence of Your grace
I’ve seen it everyday

Chorus

Lord Your kindness is so great
I can’t ignore the evidence of Your love
I can’t ignore the evidence of Your love
I can’t ignore the evidence of Your grace
I’ve seen it everyday
Lord Your kindness is so great
I can’t ignore the evidence of Your love

Chorus

I can’t ignore the evidence of Your love
I can’t ignore the evidence of Your grace
I’ve seen it everyday
Lord Your kindness is so great
I can’t ignore the evidence of Your love

Bridge

I am the evidence, the evidence of Your love
I am the evidence, the evidence of Your kindness
I am the evidence, the evidence of Your wisdom
I am the evidence, the evidence of Your power
I am the evidence, the evidence of Your love
I am the evidence, the evidence of Your kindness
I am the evidence, the evidence of Your wisdom
I am the evidence, the evidence of Your power
I am the evidence, the evidence of Your love
I am the evidence, the evidence of Your kindness
I am the evidence, the evidence of Your wisdom
I am the evidence, the evidence of Your power
I am the evidence, the evidence of Your love
I am the evidence, the evidence of Your kindness
I am the evidence, the evidence of Your wisdom
I am the evidence, the evidence of Your power

Chorus

I can’t ignore the evidence of Your love
I can’t ignore the evidence of Your grace
I’ve seen it everyday
Lord Your kindness is so great
I can’t ignore the evidence of Your love

Meaning & Inspiration

This song is a testimony about coming to see God's love as plain fact. The verse begins with a younger voice who thought God loved everybody else "but somehow not exactly me", and who pictured Him far away. With age, the singer says goodness has overshadowed that doubt, and having "tasted and seen", God now feels closer each day.

The chorus repeats "I can't ignore the evidence of Your love" and adds grace, kindness and daily experience as proof. The wording of tasting and seeing parallels Psalm 34:8.

The long bridge changes the claim from something observed to something lived: "I am the evidence" of God's love, kindness, wisdom and power. The repeated lines make the point that a changed life is itself a witness, which fits Paul's description of believers as a letter known and read by all.
