Lyrics

Baba nashukuru kwa yale yote umenitendea

Baba nashukuru kwa yale yote utatenda

Umekuwa nami (Baba) Umekuwa nami (Baba)

Nashukuru (Baba) Nashukuru (Baba)

Kuna mengi nimeyaona nikadhani nimefika mwisho

Mengi nimesikia yangenifanya nife moyo

Lakini Baba ukatembea nami Hujaniacha

Umekuwa nami (Baba) Umekuwa nami (Baba)

Nashukuru (Baba) Nashukuru (Baba)

Umekuwa nami Baba

Machozi niliyolia Baba umeyapanguza

Yote nilipoteza Baba umerejesha

Imani yangu kwako Baba imerejeshwa

Furaha iliyopotea nimeipata kwako

Roho mtakatifu umenitia nguvu

Roho mtakatifu umenitia nguvu

Umekuwa nami (Baba) Umekuwa nami (Baba)

Nashukuru (Baba) Nashukuru (Baba)

Umekuwa nami Baba

Umekuwa nami (Baba) Umekuwa nami (Baba)

Nashukuru (Baba) Nashukuru (Baba)

Umekuwa nami Baba

Meaning & Inspiration

Umekuwa Nami is a song of thanksgiving for God’s presence through distress, loss, and renewed hope. The opening words thank the Father for both completed acts of care and help still expected. That gratitude becomes more concrete as the singer recalls moments that seemed like an ending, discouraging reports, and the possibility of losing heart. Against each threat stands a simple confession: the Father remained near and did not abandon the singer.

Later lines move from survival to restoration. Tears are wiped away, what was lost is restored, faith returns, and lost joy is found again in God. The repeated acknowledgment of the Holy Spirit adds strength to the song’s account of divine companionship. Rather than treating gratitude as a response only to easy circumstances, the lyric connects praise with remembered deliverance. Its recurring refrain gives the testimony a communal worship shape, while the details remain personal and specific. The result is Swahili praise centered on God’s faithfulness, comfort, restoration, and sustaining presence.
