Marggie Dawn - Nena Nami Lyrics
Lyrics
Nena nami, nena nami Bwana
Sema Bwana na moyo wangu
Lisikie sauti yako
Bwana nena, nena nami
Nimechoshwa na sauti za watu
Natamani sauti yako
Inielekeze kwa njia zako
Bwana nena, nena nami
Nena nami, nena nami Bwana
Sema Bwana na moyo wangu
Lisikie sauti yako
Bwana nena, nena nami
Moyo wangu uko wazi Bwana
Bwana sema nikusikie
Nifahamu kusudi lako
Bwana nenam, nena nami
Ninachokitaka ni kukusikia
Ukisema na moyo wangu
Kila siku ya maisha yangu
Bwana nena nami
Nena nami, nena nami Bwana
Sema Bwana na moyo wangu
Lisikie sauti yako
Bwana nena, nena nami
Bwana nena, nena nami

Meaning & Inspiration
When Marggie Dawn brought us Nena Nami back in the spring of 2021, she tapped into a desperation that every believer eventually hits. We live in a noisy era where everyone has a megaphone and an opinion, but this song strips away that clutter. The core plea, Nena nami Bwana, or speak to me Lord, mirrors the posture of young Samuel in 1 Samuel 3:10 when he finally realized it was the Creator calling his name. It is not just a request for divine conversation; it is a declaration of spiritual bankruptcy regarding human advice. When she sings Nimechoshwa na sauti za watu, or I am tired of the voices of people, she mimics the Apostle Paul’s commitment to seek the approval of God rather than the approval of men as described in Galatians 1:10.
The theology here is simple but piercing. It recognizes that God’s voice is the only one that carries weight, truth, and direction. By asking the Lord to speak to her heart, Dawn highlights the internal nature of the Holy Spirit’s work, much like how Proverbs 3:5–6 commands us to trust the Lord with all our hearts rather than leaning on our own understanding or the babble of the culture around us. When she cries out to understand His purpose, she is effectively praying the same prayer as David in Psalm 25:4, asking God to show her His ways and teach her His paths. It is an act of total surrender, acknowledging that if God does not speak, we are effectively lost in a fog of our own making.
This track acts as a spiritual filter. We are constantly flooded with information, social pressures, and anxieties that drown out the quiet, still voice of the Father. By shifting the focus to Moyo wangu uko wazi, meaning her heart is open, she aligns herself with the posture of a disciple ready to obey. The reality is that the Lord does not usually speak to be heard in a loud, thunderous way; He speaks to be obeyed, and this song correctly identifies that the purpose of hearing God is to align our feet with His movements. If we stop seeking the noise of the world and truly tune our ears to His frequency, we might just find that He has been trying to guide us all along, provided we are finally quiet enough to listen.
