Meaning & Inspiration
John P. Kee’s “Oh Magnify Him” centers on gathered praise offered to Christ the King. The opening verse pictures worshipers assembling, raising their hands, and declaring that Christ is everything to them. Each section then develops that shared purpose: singing, shouting, obeying, and magnifying God’s name. The recurring language of glorification makes praise the song’s main subject rather than a passing response to a particular circumstance.
The title and vamp closely echo the biblical invitation to magnify the Lord together. The bridge adds surrender to that praise through agreement with God’s will and way, showing worship through obedience as well as words. Its declaration that the Lamb is worthy also recalls the heavenly praise given to Christ in Revelation. By moving from assembly to acclamation and then to repeated magnification, the lyric presents corporate worship as a unified confession of God’s holiness, kingship, and worthiness.
