Meaning & Inspiration
This worship song uses water as its main image. A solo opening verse asks the Lord to lead the singer toward His heart, and the bridge pictures going "Deeper into the water, deeper until I'm under". A hook then calls for "living water" and "healing water" to flow and overtake the singers.
The second verse asks for closeness enough to feel the cadence of God's heart and includes the line "Streams of justice flow to the least of these", which links worship with concern for the poor and the overlooked. The closing vamp, with the line "Deep cries out to deep", repeats a request for God to give "Your heart" and ends by naming "the least of these".
Several phrases line up with Scripture. "Deep cries out to deep" appears in Psalm 42:7, the living water imagery echoes John 7:38, and the stress on justice recalls Amos 5:24. These connections are drawn from the wording of the lyrics and are offered with some caution.
