Meaning & Inspiration
“He Knows My Name” is a short, gentle worship song by Don Moen about being known by God. It is built from three small portraits: a Maker, a God who knows, and a Father. The first stanza says the Maker formed the singer’s heart before time began and holds the singer’s life in His hands. The second repeats the title line, “He knows my name,” and adds that He knows every thought, sees each tear that falls, and hears when the singer calls.
The third stanza turns to the Father who “calls me His own” and “will never leave me, no matter where I go.” Together the lines move from creation, to attention, to belonging, so that being known becomes the ground of security.
The imagery is close to Psalm 139:1-4, Psalm 56:8 and Isaiah 43:1, and the promise of presence echoes Hebrews 13:5. The lyric is brief and plain, which suits its message that nothing about the singer is hidden from a caring God.
