Lyrics
Verse 1
I was needing to be found
I was longing for a breakthrough
Chains held me to the ground
A perfect time for a rescue
But only You could make a way
Only You could make the wind break
I will call on Your name
And I will make my soul sing
Chorus
God is in control (Oh)
Yes, He's in control (Yes)
I hope you know (I hope you know)
In case you don't (In case you don't)
His story shows (His story shows)
He's in control (Mhm)
Verse 2
A tug of war for my mind
(Battle for my sanity)
But I ain't going down without a fight
(The enemy thought he had me)
Oh, 'cause I was stayin' by Your light
(Only place I know to be)
Yeah, dark is running from Your light
(Perfect love surround me)
Woah, suddenly I heard a sound
Chains falling all around me
You were riding on a cloud (Hey)
There was lightning at Your feet
Victory was in Your mouth (Victory)
Mountains are trembling (Mountains)
Heaven follows with a shout (Come on)
I'll join in singing
Chorus
God is in control
Yes, He's in control (God is)
God is in control (Oh, yeah)
I hope you know (I hope you know)
In case you don't (In case you don't)
His story shows (His story shows)

Meaning & Inspiration
God Is In Control is a testimony and declaration about God's rescue. The first verse describes a time of needing to be found and longing for a breakthrough, held by chains, with the conviction that only God could make a way. The chorus declares that He is in control and invites others to know it, since His story shows it.
The second verse describes a battle for the mind, standing by God's light as dark runs away, and hearing chains fall, then pictures God riding a cloud with lightning at His feet and mountains trembling. The bridge lifts the promises of peace passing understanding and new mercies each morning. Those lines draw on Philippians 4:7 and Lamentations 3:22-23, the cloud and trembling mountains on Psalm 68:4 and Psalm 97:4-5, and the image of being planted by streams on Psalm 1:3. The call-and-response style, with spoken interjections, gives the song a lively, congregational feel.
