Lyrics
Verse 1
I have cried when nobody could see me
I have walked through the fire alone
I have carried some nights on my shoulders
Hmm
But you never let go of my soul
When the enemy told me it was over
When my heart had forgotten the lights
I fell down with my face to the ground, Lord
And I called on your name in the night
Chorus
I don't need a sword in my hand
I don't need an army behind me
When I whisper the name of Jesus, Heaven stands beside me
This is how I fight my battles
I go down on my knees
This is how I fight my battles
I call on Jesus and breathe
Verse 2
When the darkness comes around me
When I cannot see the road
I lift my hands and say Yahweh
And I let my father fight for me
Yahweh Yahweh
You have never lost a battle
Yahweh
You have never left me alone
Yahweh Yahweh Yahweh
Fight for me my father
Oh, fight for me again
Verse 3
There were doors that closed before me
There were voices saying turn away
But the God who carried me yesterday
Is the same God carrying me today
I may tremble, but I will not surrender
I may cry, but my faith will remain
Every tear that falls in your presence
Becomes worship when I call your name
Hmm
Chorus
I don't need a sword in my hand
I don't need an army behind me
When I whisper the name of Jesus, Heaven stands beside me
This is how I fight my battles
I go down on my knees
This is how I fight my battles
I call on Jesus and breathe
When the darkness comes around me
When I cannot see the road
I lift my hands and say Yahweh
And I let my father fight for me
Bridge
If I cannot run, I will pray
If I cannot speak, I will cry out
If I cannot stand, I will kneel
And if all I have is one breath left
Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus
That is enough for me Jesus
Hey Yahweh, fight my battle
Hey Yahweh, stand beside me
My defender, my deliverer
Lion of Judah, roar for me
Hey Yahweh, fight my battle
Hey Yahweh, carry me when my hands are weak
When my heart is tired
You fight for me, yeah
This is how I fight my battle
With my hands lifted high
Chorus Outro
This is how I fight my battles
With your name as my cry
Even when the night surrounds me
I know morning has to come
I lift my hands and say Yahweh
Because the battle belongs to God
The battle is not mine
The battle is yours
Yahweh
Away, hmm, fight for me

Meaning & Inspiration
My Battles is a song about fighting through prayer and trust in God. The verses speak of crying unseen, walking through fire alone, being told by the enemy that all was over, and falling face down to call on God's name. The chorus says no sword or army is needed, since the whisper of the name of Jesus brings Heaven beside the singer, and that the battles are fought on the knees.
Later lines call on Yahweh as the One who has never lost a battle, ask Him to fight again, and speak of tears that become worship. The bridge names Him defender, deliverer and Lion of Judah, and the outro says the battle belongs to God. The theme matches 2 Chronicles 20:15, Exodus 14:14, Ephesians 6:12 and Revelation 5:5. Repeated declarations make the song a prayer of surrender and trust for hard times.
