Lyrics
There was a woman in the service
That was speaking in other tongues
Praying in the spirit
Lord your will be done
All the while that she was praying
The Spirit touched my soul
I said I know that feeling
It overflows
Now when the Lord comes
Let the Spirit have his way
You'll feel better tomorrow
Than you feel today
Chains will be broken
Oh, That's how it goes
I know that feeling it overflows
Now when the Lord comes
Let the Spirit have his way
You'll feel better tomorrow
Than you feel today
Your Chains will be broken
Oh, That's how it goes
I know that feeling
I know that feeling
I know that feeling
I know that feeling
It overflows, Overflow, overflows, overflows,
it overflows
Overflows, overflows I Know that feeling
It Overflows
Overflow, overflow, overflow, it overflows
Overflow, overflow I Know that feeling,
I know that feeling it overflows

Meaning & Inspiration
“It Overflows” describes a worship service in which prayer and speaking in tongues accompany a vivid experience of the Holy Spirit. The central phrase names that experience as something abundant rather than contained. As the song moves from testimony into repeated declarations, spiritual renewal is linked with freedom from chains, hope for tomorrow, and surrender to the Spirit’s work.
The scene may call to mind New Testament accounts of believers speaking in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them, especially Acts 2:4. Its language about letting the Spirit have his way also aligns with the call to live under the Spirit’s direction in Galatians 5:25. Rather than explaining every detail of the experience, the lyrics dwell on its effect: a soul is touched, praise rises, and bondage gives way. The repeated word “overflows” gives the song its central image of divine activity exceeding ordinary limits and awakening confident worship.
