Meaning & Inspiration
The Medley - All I Need is a prayer for a touch from God. The opening verse says that no one else can do what He does, that the wrongs in life can be made right and that all the singer has ever needed is a touch from Him. A second section borrows the language of the spiritual "Standing in the Need of Prayer," asking Him to reach down from heaven and pull the singer through.
The last section pictures a changed life: if He touches, loss becomes a win and life begins again. The theme of needing Christ's touch recalls Mark 5:27-29 and Matthew 9:20-22, in which a woman is healed by touching His garment, along with Psalm 40:1-2 on being lifted from the pit. The song is dependent, humble and hopeful, and its repeated lines let a congregation pray the same request together.
