About Matt Maher
Matt Maher is a contemporary Christian music artist, songwriter, and worship leader known for his heartfelt contributions to modern worship. Born Matthew Guion Maher on November 10, 1974, in Newfoundland, Canada, he studied jazz piano at Arizona State University before transitioning into a career in Christian music. A practicing Catholic, Maher has performed at multiple World Youth Day festivals and resides in Nashville, Tennessee, with his wife and children. He is also an official Steinway Artist.
Maher released his first major-label album, Empty and Beautiful, in 2008. Over the years, his catalog has grown to include songs such as “Lord, I Need You,” “Because He Lives (Amen),” “Alive & Breathing,” “Hold Us Together,” “All The People Said Amen,” and “Your Grace Is Enough.” He has also released albums including Echoes and The Advent of Christmas.
His work has earned significant recognition. Maher received Songwriter of the Year at the 2015 GMA Dove Awards and has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards. His song “Lord, I Need You” achieved RIAA Platinum certification, while “Hold Us Together,” “All The People Said Amen,” and “Because He Lives (Amen)” each earned RIAA Gold certification. Through his songwriting and worship leadership, Maher has become a notable voice in Christian music.
