About John Michael Talbot
John Michael Talbot is a Catholic musician and author whose work has been widely recognized within Christian music circles. Born on May 8, 1954, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, he began his musical career at age fifteen as a guitarist for the country folk-rock band Mason Proffit.
In 1978, Talbot converted to Roman Catholicism and joined the Third Order of St. Francis. He later founded and became General Minister of the Brothers and Sisters of Charity, an integrated monastic community based at Little Portion Hermitage in Arkansas. Over the course of his career, he has recorded more than fifty albums and has written numerous books on Christian meditation, music, and spirituality.
Some of his notable releases include John Michael Talbot (1976), The Lord's Supper (1979), Come to the Quiet (1980), Light Eternal (1982), God of Life (1984), Master Musician (1992), Table of Plenty (1997), and Inner Room (2016). In 1982, Light Eternal received a GMA Dove Award for Worship Album of the Year. Talbot also received the 1985 NARAS President’s Merit Award (a Grammy honor) for “Song of the Poor,” and he was named No. 1 Christian Artist by Billboard magazine in 1988. He hosted the television program All Things Are Possible on The Church Channel.
In 2005, Talbot was inducted into the Arkansas Entertainers Hall of Fame. His work as a recording artist, writer, and monastic founder has remained a steady part of his ministry.
