Meaning & Inspiration
“That Great Name” by All Nations Music is a congregational praise song built on the repeated line “We will praise the name of Jesus, that great name.” It then asks that the name be lifted above all the earth and above all heaven, and says “No one can rival Your word,” placing Jesus above every other claim. This is close to Philippians 2:9-11, where God gives Jesus the name above every name.
The lyric moves from praise to posture. “We will honor and exalt him” gives way to a prayer to “shine Your light, shine through us,” asking that the praise become visible in the singer’s life. The second half turns to humility: “We cast down our crowns, humble ourselves, we bow down just to honor Your name.” The image of casting down crowns recalls Revelation 4:10.
Because the chorus returns often and the ending asks for repetition, the song suits group worship. Its message is that the name of Jesus deserves the highest honor, and that bowing is the fitting response.
