Meaning & Inspiration
“Yes Sir” by Ada Ehi is a song of obedience and surrender. The refrain answers God with “Yes Sir, yes Sir, yes,” and the singer says “whatever you say” to the King of Glory, whom she calls dependable, her champion, and her defender. The lines in Igbo express the same wish to have God’s way, and the song mixes them freely with English.
The bridge is the most personal moment. The singer says she is tired of “doing me,” because “me cannot save me,” and tired of hustling and struggling when God’s plenty is available. She offers her life as one of His wonders and asks to be a sign to her generation, which is close to Isaiah 8:18, and a story of His grace.
