But hold up!
Hang on!

Singer 2: the forgiveness that...
All: you... can... get!

All: And right now, He's gonna lend a helping hand from up above!

Meaning & Inspiration
Second Chances is a lively children's song from the story of Jonah that celebrates a God of forgiveness. The opening lines describe someone who is feeling blue after running from what God asked and being headed for "Whale chow tonight," then interrupt with the news that life is not over because God is a God of mercy and love and offers a helping hand.
The choir refrain declares that He is the God of second chances who restores people from their darkest circumstances, and the verse invites anyone who is sorry for their wrongs to expect another chance. The theme comes from Jonah 3:1-2, where the word of the Lord comes to Jonah a second time, along with 1 John 1:9 and Lamentations 3:22-23 on forgiveness and mercy. The call-and-response parts, spoken lines and repeated "If you believe God's love is true" make it easy for children to follow and join in.
