Lyrics

Verse 1

Unreserved unrestrained
Your love is wild
Your love is wild for me
It isn't shy it's unashamed
Your love is proud to be seen with me
To be seen with me

Chorus

Cause You don't give Your heart in pieces
And You don't hide Your self to tease us

Verse 2

Uncontrolled and uncontained
Your love is a fire burning bright for me
It's not a spark
It's not just a flame
Your love is light
And all the world will see
All the world will see

Chorus

You don't give Your heart in pieces
And You don't hide Your self to tease us
You don't give Your heart in pieces (no)
And You don't hide Your self to tease us (no)

Verse 3

Your love's not fractured
It's not a troubled mind
It isn't anxious
It's not the restless kind
Your love's not passive
It's never disengaged
It's always present
It hangs on every word You say
Love keeps it's promises
It keeps it's word
It honors what's sacred
Yes, it's vows are good
And Your love's not broken
It's not insecure
Your love's not selfish
Your love is pure

Chorus

You don't give Your heart in pieces
(oh no no)
And You don't hide Your self to tease us
(no no)
You don't give Your heart in pieces (no)
And You don't hide Your self to tease us (no)

You don't give Your heart in pieces
And You don't hide Your self to tease us

Meaning & Inspiration

Pieces describes the wholehearted nature of God's love. The first verse calls His love unreserved, unrestrained, wild, unashamed and proud to be seen with the singer, and the chorus says He does not give His heart in pieces or hide Himself to tease. The second verse likens His love to a fire burning bright, not a spark, whose light the world will see.

The third verse lists what His love is not: fractured, troubled, anxious, restless, passive, disengaged, broken, insecure or selfish, and what it is: present, promise-keeping, honoring what is sacred and pure. The themes fit 1 John 4:16-18 on perfect love, Romans 8:38-39, Song of Solomon 8:6-7 on love like fire, and 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. The long list of contrasts makes the song a meditation on the character of God's love.
