Meaning & Inspiration
“Yabo – Praise (But We Trust in the Name of the Lord)” by Solomon Lange is a praise medley that moves between English and Hausa. Its opening verse is built on Psalm 20:7: “Some trust in chariots, some trust in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord.” It extends the contrast to skills and kin, and promises to stand tall “when the arm of flesh will fail them.”
The later verses draw on other scripture: “If the Lord doesn’t build a house, then we labor in vain” recalls Psalm 127:1, and “Greater is he who is in me” echoes 1 John 4:4. A call to blow the trumpet in Zion, close to Joel 2:1, leads into the declaration, “We’ve got the victory forever.”
The Hausa lines ask what can be given to the Savior in return for His love and grace, and the closing refrain “Yabo daga zuchiya” means “praise from my heart,” joined by worship and thanksgiving. The song moves from confidence in God’s name to thankful devotion.
