Lyrics

Chorus

Amenifanyia amani
Amenifanyia amani
Kaondoa huzuni yangu
Kanifanyia amani.

Verse 1

Nijapopita, kwenye bonde la mauti
Sitaogopa, maana wewe uko nami
Gongo lako na fimbo yako, eh Bwana vyanifariji
Wanifanyia amani umesema, ya kwamba hutaniacha
Sababu mimi, ni mboni ya jicho lako
Bwana wanitazama, asubuhi, mchana, jioni
Eeh Bwana, kweli Mungu wa baraka

Chorus (Repeat)

Amenifanyia amani
Amenifanyia amani
Kaondoa huzuni yangu
Kanifanyia amani.

Verse 2

Amebadilisha uchungu wangu, umekua ni furaha yangu
Oh huyu Yesu amenipa furaha
Kanifanyia amani
Amebadilisha machozi yangu yamekuwa ni furaha yangu oooh!
Huyu Yesu amenipa furaha kanifanyia amani

Chorus (Repeat)

Amenifanyia amani
Amenifanyia amani
Kaondoa huzuni yangu
Kanifanyia amani.

Verse 3

Furaha unipayo siyo kama ya dunia hii
Amani unipayo siyo kama ya ulimwengu huu
Wewe waniganga moyo nipatapo uchungu
Wanifanyia amani

Outro

Amenifanyia furaha
Amenifanyia furaha
Kaondoa huzuni yangu
Kanifanyia furaha.

Meaning & Inspiration

“Amenifanyia Amani,” which means “He has made peace for me,” by Paul Clement is a Swahili song of comfort. The chorus repeats that God has made peace and taken away the singer’s sorrow. The first verse draws on Psalm 23: walking through the valley of death without fear because the Lord is present, and finding comfort in the rod and staff.

It then says the singer is “mboni ya jicho lako,” the apple of God’s eye, watched morning, noon, and evening. That image is close to Zechariah 2:8 and Psalm 17:8. The second verse says bitterness has been changed to joy and tears to gladness through Jesus.

The third verse echoes John 14:27, where Jesus gives a peace unlike the world’s, with the lines that the joy and peace given are not like those of this world. The ending shifts the refrain from peace to joy. The song’s message is that comfort in pain comes from the nearness of Christ, who replaces sorrow with peace and joy.
