“More Like Jesus,” performed by One Voice Worship with Canaan Baca, is a prayer for transformation. The first verse describes the advice to “live my own truth” and chase good feelings, and the pre-chorus admits the result: “More lost than ever, enslaved and bound to my desires.” The turn comes in the chorus, “Holy Spirit make me more like Jesus,” followed by a request to crucify the flesh and to be made into His image.
That wording is close to Galatians 2:20, “I am crucified with Christ,” and to Romans 8:29 and 2 Corinthians 3:18, which speak of being conformed to the image of Christ by the Spirit. The second pre-chorus mirrors the first, replacing bondage with freedom: “My life laid down for Your desires, now this is freedom.”
