Come, come let us return to the Lord
Come, come let us return to the Lord
In brokenness of heart, we consecrate our lives singing
Come, come let us return to the Lord

With a rending of the heart
With the bowing of a knee
Oh we are returning
With a prayer and with a fast
With a song in minor key
Lord we are repenting

Even now, even now
With all of our hearts
You may turn, You may leave a blessing behind
Bridge
In Your mercy You will come
In Your mercy You will come
Surely as the rising sun
Surely as the rising sun

Meaning & Inspiration
Come Let Us Return To The Lord is a song of repentance drawn from the prophets. The chorus invites coming back to the Lord with a broken heart and consecrated lives, and the verse speaks of a rending of the heart, the bowing of a knee, a prayer and a fast, and a song in a minor key. The pre-chorus recalls "Even now" and the hope that He may turn and leave a blessing behind.
The bridge trusts that His mercy will come as surely as the rising sun. The imagery follows Joel 2:12-14 where the call to return with fasting and a torn heart is followed by hope of a blessing left behind, with Hosea 6:1-3 on returning and the coming of the Lord like the dawn. Psalm 51:17 also fits the broken heart. Reflective and unhurried, the song gives a congregation words for corporate repentance.
