Lyrics
Verse 1
There's a dream I have, can you take me back
To the city in the sky.
Where the streets are gold And the rivers flow, yeah it looks like paradise
I can hear the sound of voices rising, the song of the redeemed Take me back, take me back
Chorus
I see Heaven’s Glory, Christ before me
All the earth will cry out Holy
Every heart will now behold
the Lamb upon His throne
I see Heaven
Verse 2
On the glassy sea I fall on my knees
In the midst of Seraphim
And the beauty there is beyond compare
But it's nothing without Him.
With eyes of fire, a single smile
And I'm captured by His face
Take me back, take me back
Chorus
I see Heaven's Glory, Christ before me
All the earth will cry out Holy
Every heart will now behold the
Lamb upon His throne I see Heaven, I see Heaven
Bridge
Now we look to the day
When we see Your face
All the pain Every tear
He will wipe away

Meaning & Inspiration
City in The Sky looks toward the biblical vision of heaven with longing centered on Christ. Streets of gold, a river, redeemed voices, and a glassy sea provide the setting, but the lyric insists that none of heaven’s beauty has meaning apart from him. Its chorus places Christ before the worshiper as the earth cries holy and beholds the Lamb upon his throne.
The second verse moves from wonder to adoration, picturing a humbled response among the seraphim. Images such as the throne, the Lamb, and the sea of glass closely echo the worship scenes in Revelation. The bridge then turns expectation toward comfort: the sight of Christ’s face accompanies the promise that pain and every tear will be removed. Across these scenes, heaven is presented less as an escape into splendor than as life in the presence of Jesus. The song joins future hope, reverent worship, and consolation in a single vision of Christ reigning among the redeemed.
