“I’m Next in Line for My Blessings” is a reggae gospel testimony of patient faith. George Banton sings of laying his burdens at God’s feet and waiting, even when the wait feels much too long. He says he cannot give up, because whatever he needs, God will provide, and he believes that if he keeps the faith, God will make a way.
The chorus is the central picture: “I’m next in line for my blessings.” The singer says he will not complain, and that soon his name will be called. The second verse adds that he knows God will supply his needs and that he will hide under His wings, an image close to Psalm 91:4.
The bridge is honest about the waiting. Sometimes it seems he cannot make it home, but he will wait until his change comes. He adds that God may not come when he calls, but He is always on time, a thought close to Habakkuk 2:3 and Isaiah 40:31.
