Meaning & Inspiration
“Praise” by Brandon Lake, Chris Brown, Elevation Worship and Chandler Moore frames praise as a choice made in every condition. The first verse pairs opposites, valley and mountain, certainty and doubt, being outnumbered and surrounded, to show that worship does not wait for good circumstances.
The chorus borrows the psalmist’s words, “Praise the Lord, oh my soul,” and ties them to breathing: as long as there is breath, there is a reason to sing. The second verse calls praise a weapon and links it to the shout that brought Jericho down, recalling Joshua 6. A line says the singer will praise whether he feels it or not.
The bridge gives the ground of praise: God is sovereign, He reigns, He rose and defeated the grave, and He is faithful. The refrain “I won’t be quiet, my God is alive” turns that into a bold public song. The wording is close to Psalm 103:1 and Psalm 150:6.
