Elevation Worship - Here As In Heaven Lyrics
Lyrics
The atmosphere is changing now
For the Spirit of the Lord is here
The evidence is all around
That the Spirit of the Lord is here
Overflow in this place
Fill our hearts with Your love
Your love surrounds us
You're the reason we came
To encounter Your love
Your love surrounds us
Spirit of God fall fresh on us
We need Your presence
Your kingdom come
Your will be done
Here as in heaven
A miracle can happen now
For the Spirit of the Lord is here
The evidence is all around
That the Spirit of the Lord is here

Meaning & Inspiration
I’ve been sitting with the thought of "Here as in heaven" from the 2016 album, and it’s strange how something that feels so familiar can actually feel a bit heavy when you stop to look at the words. The prayer for His kingdom to come and His will to be done—that’s straight out of the Lord’s Prayer, and there’s something bold about asking for that to happen right where we are standing, like right now. It makes me think about what it actually looks like for the atmosphere to change. Is it just a feeling, or is it supposed to be something more tangible? Because when the lyrics talk about the evidence being all around, I find myself looking around the room and wondering if I’m really seeing the Spirit or just reacting to the music.
There’s this tension, I think, between wanting the miraculous and just needing to be near Him. If the Spirit is truly present, then that should be enough, right? Paul wrote to the Corinthians about the Spirit dwelling in us, so in a way, we are carrying that atmosphere wherever we go, not just waiting for it to show up in a specific building. But sometimes I worry that we treat the Spirit like a force we can summon if we just sing the right lines or create the right mood. Still, when I catch myself singing, "Spirit of God fall fresh on us," I realize I’m admitting that I’ve grown stale or that I’ve stopped paying attention to the fact that He’s already there. Maybe the song isn't asking Him to come from somewhere else, but asking us to finally open our eyes to the fact that His kingdom is actually breaking in, even if it doesn't look like a miracle every single time. It’s a uncomfortable thing, really, to ask for His will to be done, because that usually means mine has to get out of the way, and I’m not always great at that. I’m just not sure if we’re always ready for what it would mean if heaven actually broke through here as completely as we say we want it to.
