Meaning & Inspiration
“Ni Kwa Neema Na Rehema” (It is by grace and mercy) by Edson Mwasabwite is a Swahili song of gratitude for where the singer stands. The first verse says “Hapa nilipo mimi, ni kwa neema ya Mungu” (where I am now is by God’s grace) and recalls coming a long way, while the chorus repeats “Ni kwa neema tu, neema na rehema.”
The second verse reflects on unexpected help: “Sikutegemea” (I did not expect it), with a call to lift God high. The third verse turns to the listener and lists gifts received from God, life, breath, ability, and possessions, then asks what good deed one has done to deserve them. A later chorus adds that people live and eat, and that God cares for them.
The message is close to Ephesians 2:8, 1 Corinthians 15:10, and Deuteronomy 8:18, which credit God for grace, standing, and the power to gain wealth. The song is a plain reminder that everything is received.
